Bhubaneswar: A few days after the violent clash between villagers and police at Belabahali, Anandpur left scores injured and hundreds arrested, opposition parties are now thronging the place to take stock of the situation and to sympathise with the villagers who have been protesting a proposed bridge on the river Kosei.
A BJP team led by State party president K.V. Singhdeo arrived at Belabahali today after a Congress team led by leader of opposition Narsingh Mishra and OPCC president Prasad Harichandan visited the place yesterday.
Congress leaders pledged their support to the protest and said that adequate steps will be taken by the party to raise this issue in the Assembly. The senior leaders also made their intentions clear and said that if required a peaceful protest will be carried out in future not only within the village but outside.
Notably, the villagers of Belabahali clashed with police on July 7 while protesting a proposed bridge over river Kosei as a part of NH-215 extension.
The protest is a long-running one as several rounds of negotiations with the administration regarding the location of the bridge have yielded no results.
