If you don’t exercise your franchise, you won’t get the facilities the government is providing. BJD’s Attabira MLA and candidate Snehangini Chhuria was heard saying in a purported video clip that has gone viral.

The location in the viral video is said to be a place in the Bheden area where she went to campaign. In the video, she can be seen addressing a gathering.

“It has been announced this time that all should come out of their houses to cast their votes. Not a single vote of yours should fall short. The entire voting process is being recorded.  If someone doesn’t cast her votes, if her name is not there in vote record, then she won’t get pension, house or whatever else she is entitled to receive in future.” She can be heard saying this in local dialect in the video clip.

BJP’s candidate for the Attabira Assembly constituency, Nihar Ranjan Mahananda took potshots at Chhuria, who has been pitted against him, accusing her of threatening voters.

“Sitting in an election meeting, Snehangini Chhuria threatened people that they won’t receive pension and ration if they don’t cast their votes.  The BJD should come out with a clarification. A case should be registered against her for violating the MCC,” said Mahananda.

No comments were received from Chhuria and the BJD.
