Two-day joint naval exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ concludes at Paradip port

Bhubaneswar: A two-day joint naval exercise – Sagar Kavach – held in view of the coastal security, by the Indian Navy, Coast Guards and Odisha Police, concluded at the Paradip port today.

Tripartite training regarding entry of intruders through coastal areas and security measures were included in the exercise. Importance was given on providing awareness and training to the fishermen.

Odisha Government is taking various steps to secure its coastal areas following the Mumbai attack. Coastal security has been beefed up after knowing that terrorists are intruding into the country through sea routes.

The marine department of the port, Directorate of Fisheries, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) also took part in the joint exercise.

Talking to media persons Paradip ASP Gadadhar Pradhani said, “The motive of the exercise was to prepare ourselves for attack of enemy forces, how we will be able to meet their challenges and strike back. What we learned from the training will be analysed in later days and steps will be taken to identify the security measures that needs improvement.

Training Officer of Marine Police Brahmananda Swain said, “We are checking the identities of the fishermen, providing them awareness and asking them to inform us if they see any terrorists coming via sea route.”
