As many as 80 drug peddlers/smugglers have been arrested during Operation White Spider, a drive undertaken by the Commissionerate Police against the illegal narcotics trade. 

According to the Commissionerate Police, from January till April 30 this year, 80 drug dealers linked with 46 narcotics seizure cases have been arrested.     

During the period, the police registered 20 cases of drug peddling and 35 people linked to such cases were produced in court. Police seized 352.840 gm of brown sugar, cash worth Rs 3.50 lakh, 11 cell phones, and 13 motorcycles.

Police registered 25 cases in connection with ganja peddling and 43 accused were produced in court. A total of 297.720 kg of ganja, cash of Rs 75,080, 12 phones, and 9 bikes were seized.

Moreover, two persons were arrested and 168 litres of cough syrup were seized.

Addressing a presser, DCP Prateek Singh said, "A host of measures are being taken to stop the illegal trade of drugs. All police stations have special teams who are gleaning information about drug suppliers, peddlers and buyers. Besides, a special unit is working at the CP office tracking information on drug suppliers and peddlers.”

A special Crime Unit is functioning to contain the drug menace and is carrying out special operations, the DCP added.
