After many permutations and combinations, the new Odisha Chief Minister's name was announced in the BJP legislature party meeting in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Senior party leader Mohan Majhi will be BJP's first Chief Minister in the State. The decision was taken by central observers Rajnath Singh and Bhupender Yadav. The saffron party had appointed both the Union Ministers to oversee the selection of the new Chief Minister.

The new government will take oath on June 12. The BJP on June 4 secured a majority by winning 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly. It also bagged 20 of 21 Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Mohan Charan Majhi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Keonjhar in the 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He also represented the Keonjhar twice during the years 2000 to 2009.

"Due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath, the BJP has achieved majority in Odisha and is going to form the government in the State. I would like to thank the 4.5 crore Odias who decided to vote for a change and bring the BJP to power in Odisha. The BJP will definitely honour the trust that the people of Odisha have shown," said Odisha CM-designate, Mohan Majhi.

“I am very happy that my father is going to be the Chief Minister of Odisha. Before the announcement, we didn’t have an inkling that he would be selected as the new CM. My friends have since been calling to congratulate me,” said Mohan Charan Majhi’s younger son.

“I thought that he would be a Minister but had never thought that he would become the Chief Minister. I came to know about the good news from OTV. I am really very happy. All this happened due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath,” said, Mohan Charan Majhi’s wife Priyanka Marandi

Two Deputy CMs For Odisha

KV Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida have been appointed Deputy Chief Ministers of Odisha. This is the first time that Odisha will have deputy CMs.

“This is how the BJP functions. It being a cadre-based party, the BJP central leadership gives importance to taking all people along with them. I think they have made the right choice. After the swearing-in ceremony, we will start working to fulfil the promises we made in our election manifesto,” said KV Singh Deo, Deputy CM-designate.

“In BJP, examples of common people being entrusted with uncommon responsibilities are galore. This is why people work here. It doesn’t take much time for a worker to become a leader. We will work to fulfil whatever the Prime Minister has promised and the Cabinet decides,” said Pravati Parida, Deputy CM-designate.

Work To Begin In 100 Days

"As per the Sankalp Patra of the party, work will begin within 100 days of govt formation to fulfill the promises,"  said Odisha CM-designate Mohan Majhi.
