Mamitha Nayak (21) was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday night. Hailing from Odisha, she had joined M.Tech first year last month.
On Saturday, the girl student went to sleep after completing her studies. Suspicion grew after she did not open the door of her room the next day. Later, she was found hanging in the room.
In a significant development, the police in Maharashtra's Raigad on Friday filed an FIR against the ECL/Edelweiss group and five of its officials, in connection with the suicide case of film art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai, an official said.

There had been frequent quarrels between Rama Das and her family members. On Monday, Rama took an extreme step. She, carrying her son, jumped into a nearby abandoned well in an attempt to end both lives.
As per initial reports, Das was staying alone at a rented accommodation. His body was found hanging at his residence at Rajmahal Sahi in Polsara. The exact reason behind the death is unclear.
The woman and her elder daughter were rescued by the locals but two other children including the minor son could not be saved.
It is suspected that the couple took the extreme step after failing to repay the loan they had availed from a private finance company recently. The deceased has been identified as Satya Swarup Panda who was residing in a mess at Niladri Vihar Sector-5 in the Smart City.
Mallick was unable to cope with his wife’s death and was under severe mental stress. Mallick committed suicide by hanging himself in a nearby forest, sources informed.
Police have seized the body and sent it to Capital hospital for autopsy.
On Sunday, the body of a young traffic volunteer was recovered by Lingaraj Police from his house at Surya Vihar area in Bhubaneswar. The deceased, Atulya Kumar, was Plus III student at Ekamra College. The reason behind Atulya's extreme step is still unclear.
