It seems there is no let up in the ongoing war of words going on between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the lungi the Chief Minister was seen wearing in a video while making a vote appeal.  The BJP on Friday targeted the ruling BJD, saying the lungi Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was seen wearing in the clip is not an original Sambalpuri lungi.

After the video clip of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik surfaced on social media platforms, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan targeted VK Pandian saying the gumasta should have got an elderly person like Naveen Babu dressed up in a pyjama and kurta.

To counter him, BJD leader Sasmit Patra had said the Union Minister has hurt the culture of Odisha and lampooned the handloom sector and the Sambalpuri lungi.

Taking the war of words further, the BJP dismissed the BJD’s claim of the lungi being a Sambalpuri one.

“Their (BJD) statement that we (BJP) are bringing disgrace to Sambalpuri lungi and the weaver community is ridiculous. The lungi in question is not our traditional Sambalpuri lungi,” said Pramod Rath, BJP leader of Sambalpur.
No reactions were received from the BJD.
