ITI student ends life in Bhubaneswar; family accuses teacher of torture

Mystery shrouds the death of an ITI student inside the hostel of an institute under Mancheswar Police limits in Bhubaneswar on Friday. The deceased, Rudra Madhav Rana’s body was found hanging today. Rana was a first year student of electrical trade at the ITI.

The family members of the deceased student alleged that Rana ended his life after he was beaten up by a lecturer.

“My son always used to say that one lecturer used to beat and torture him. He was not allowing him to visit home by stating that there were no orders,” said the deceased student’s mother. Rana’s mother further alleged that the concerned lecturer had also beaten him and twisted his hand yesterday.

“My son had called and informed me that he was beaten up yesterday. He had also threatened to end his life, if the teacher would beat him again,” the victim's mother alleged.

Police have seized the body and sent it to Capital hospital for autopsy.

Sources said that the concerned lecturer has not been seen at the institute since yesterday. The authorities of the institute have refused to comment on the matter.
