As per the allegations, the saffron party workers were thrashed and kidnapped by some ruling party workers near the solar plant when they were campaigning at Tendapali village with BJP’s Titlagarh MLA candidate Naveen Jain.

Ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik conducted a roadshow in Bhubaneswar and campaigned for the BJD candidates.

Pradeep Panigarhi had been criticising Naveen Patnaik and VK Pandian since he switched over to the saffron party, resulting in his popularity being on the rise. 

In the 2024 Odisha elections, the BJP and Congress are highlighting the multi-crore chit fund scam to challenge the BJD government. Both parties promise restitution for victims, while BJD defends its position. The scam involves Rs 30,000 crore affecting 70 lakh investors.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted the state government while raising several issues including the disappearance of the Ratna Bhandar key and labour migration issues. 

Hundreds of party workers and leaders joined the roadshow and both sides of the road were thronged by locals, giving credence to the people's support for Baijayant Panda and the party’s Tangi-Salepur MLA candidate, Arindam Roy. 

During his visit to Odisha, AICC President Mallikarajun Kharge criticized the BJD and BJP for high unemployment and forced migration. He highlighted the lack of development despite long-term governance and accused both parties of plundering state resources.

BJP National President JP Nadda, during a public meeting at Padampur in Bargarh, took a swipe at the BJD government for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a roadshow in Puri on May 20.

BJP leaders claimed the murder of Dilip Puhan in Khallikote was orchestrated by Saket Rama Rao, nephew of the late queen V. Sugnana Kumari Deo. They alleged that it was a politically motivated attack that took place after a large feast was thrown at the queen's bungalow, which was termed as a corruption hub.

The victims have lodged a complaint in this regard at Golanthara police station.

Voters alleged that the BJD government has done nothing during its 25 years of governance and people in the region are still deprived of many basic amenities.

Reflecting on trends after the first phase of voting in Odisha, the senior saffron party leader said ‘BJD has missed the bus and now it is in the favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party’. 

Some BJD workers allegedly launched a deadly attack on the supporters of the BJP while they were putting up party banners as part of electioneering.

BJP National President JP Nadda criticized the BJD government in Odisha for alleged voter bribery and bureaucratic dominance, advocating for a change to empower women and the populace.
