BJD MLA candidate Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak allegedly faced an embarrassing situation at Batighar Panchayat under Mahakalapada Assembly constituency after local residents cornered him over the lack of basic facilities on Thursday.

The purported video of the incident has reportedly gone viral over various social media platforms.

The local residents claimed that upon being questioned as to why basic facilities including drinking water were eluding them, he fled from the spot in a boat.

As per reports, Nayak had come to Uttara Barakoli Khala village in election campaigning on Thursday. However, some local residents surrounded him and asked him some questions about the developmental activities undertaken in the area during his tenure. They also wanted to know from him about the basic amenities including the drinking water facility provided in the area.

As per the allegations by the villagers, Nayak fled from the spot in a boat after not being able to answer their questions.

"Women had staged a road blockade with buckets and pots over the lack of drinking water facilities in our area. When Nayak came to our village, they asked him about the developmental activities undertaken in our area. Not being able to answer their questions, he fled away from the spot in a boat," said a local resident.

"We have been grappling with acute drinking water crisis in our area during the scorching summer for the last one and half months. While the tube wells are not working, we are also not getting piped drinking water on a regular basis. Though we have taken our problems up with the higher authorities several times, it has fallen on deaf ears. When we requested Nayak to solve our problems, he didn't pay any attention to our plea and fled from the spot.

However, no comments could be obtained from Nayak.
