Kangaroo court horror: Woman, two others tied and beaten in Odisha village over ‘illicit relationship’
In a shocking case of mob justice, a woman and two men were allegedly assaulted after being tied to an electric pole on suspicion of having an illicit relationship. The incident took place in Begunia village under Jashipur police limits of Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, the woman had called two relatives from Kashipal village to Jashipur on Friday to help her with market shopping. Around 4 pm, while returning to her village on a motorcycle with the two men, locals, along with members of the woman’s family, intercepted them at the village square.
Alleging an extra-marital affair, the villagers tied all three victims to an electric pole in a nearby open field and thrashed them mercilessly with sticks, slippers, and rods. Eyewitnesses described the assault as ‘inhuman and barbaric.’
Upon receiving information in the evening, Jashipur police reached the spot and rescued the victims. They were immediately shifted to Jashipur Medical for treatment.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and detained two individuals for questioning. Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the mob attack.
