Known as the Industrial Capital of Odisha, It is the third-largest Urban Agglomeration in the State. The city is also popularly known as Ispat Nagar and Steel City. Rourkela Steel Plant which was set up with German collaboration is located in the city.
The deceased was identified as Sabitri Giri, a resident of Madhusudanpali. Sandhya Giri, daughter of the deceased said that her mother was admitted to the RGH on Sunday, but succumbed today.
As per reports, as many as 13 people have died in Rourkela due to the recent Cholera outbreak with more than 1400 infected with the dreaded disease. Three patients have died at the Rourkela Government Hospital, three at other hospitals and one patient at his home.
The accused have been identified as Abhiraj Soni and Ayush Raj Prasad from Rourkela.
A woman in Rourkela alleged that the water being released by Watco is completely contaminated and the company is apathetic towards the issue and playing with the lives of the people. Muddy and dirty water is coming through the pipes.
Speaking to reporters, Mishra said, “Sufficient amount of halogen tablets and ORS pouches are being supplied to the affected areas. I along with the Health Secretary will visit Rourkela today to take stock of the situation there.”
Speaking to OTV about the current diarrhoea situation in the steel city, Mohapatra said, “The situation in Rourkela is under control. In fact, there have been declining trends in diarrhoea cases in some areas. Different hospitals including the RGH and IGH are very active.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to review the cholera outbreak in Rourkela situation with the senior officials today.
As per reports, the Health Department has deployed six Rapid Action teams to deal with diarrhoea cases. Four faculty members from Sundargarh Hospital, four junior doctors from the CDMO, 12 staff nurses and two technicians have been deputed to the Steel City.
The recent spurt in diarrhoea cases in Sundargarh’s Rourkela has left the district administration on its toes.
As per reports, more than 1000 patients from Sundargarh district and even from the bordering States come to the outdoor of the RGH to see the doctors. But a shortage of doctors has made them resent.
“We have also sent her mobile phone seized from the hotel room to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for the recovery of data. We have gathered some links connected to her death and we are analysing them,” said DSP Banita Majhi.
BJP leader Manmohan Samal said the state government has failed in various fronts and people are now discussing the failure.
As per initial reports, the youth has sustained bullet injury to his stomach. Following the firing incident, the youth was first rushed to Bisra Hospital and later shifted to the Rourkela government hospital.
The district administration and the Rourkela Chamber of Commerce welcomed it and expressed their happiness over the launch of the flight services to Kolkata.
