Known as the Industrial Capital of Odisha, It is the third-largest Urban Agglomeration in the State. The city is also popularly known as Ispat Nagar and Steel City. Rourkela Steel Plant which was set up with German collaboration is located in the city.
At least eight workers are in critical condition following a carbon monoxide gas leak at Rourkela Steel Plant. The incident occurred during repair work at blast furnace number-5. Injured workers are receiving treatment in ICU at Ispat General Hospital.
Six students who were doing an internship at NIT, Rourkela had gone to Vedvyas temple. While bathing in the Brahmani river there, they reportedly slipped into the deep of the river.
In Rourkela, two more deaths at the Government Hospital raise the suspected heatstroke death toll to 16 in Sundargarh District. Authorities are transferring critical patients to Hi-Tech Hospital in Bhubaneswar as preventive steps continue.
Superintendent of the RGH, Sudharani Pradhan informed that eight of the persons were received dead while two others died after reaching the hospital. “It has not been established that they have died of heatstroke. That has happened for unknown reasons. We are unable to give their history,” she said.

The accused has been identified as Kadam Sadashiv, a resident of Telangana. He allegedly posed himself as an RPF official on his Instagram account and managed to establish romantic relationships with some girls. Later the accused allegedly tricked the gullible girls into paying him handsomely.
The two robots developed by NIT Rourkela students can prevent mishaps by inspecting the condition of dams and bridges well in advance.
While the MCC enforcement was a bit fast in Rourkela, it was found to be dead slow in Bhubaneswar.
