Once Jajpur District was a great centre of art and culture in ancient Odisha. This district is declared as a heritage district 'Biraja Khetra' is one of the ancient cities of Odisha rich in archaeological remains. It is reputed to be one of the important Tantra Khetras in the state. This place has a number of archaeological ruins as well as ancient Budhist monuments like Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Langudi Hill. Jajpur is also honored for its natural resources, mines, and industries.
Speaking to OTV, the local said, “The Coromandel Express had met with a mishap in 2009 at exactly the same place. Many people had died in the crash.”
As per initial reports, the train did not have an engine and it was parked on the safety track.
