Major dacoity at jewellery showroom in Odisha’s Jajpur

In a broad daylight robbery, armed miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments from a jewellery showroom in Jajpur district on Monday.

As per initial reports, seven armed miscreants were involved in the dacoity. All the ornaments from the jewellery showroom, located at Vyasanagar, have reportedly been stolen.

Sources said that miscreants wielding guns entered the showroom and decamped with the ornaments after assaulting the employees. Two employees have been injured in the attack by the miscreants.

The miscreants initially snatched the weapon of the jewellery showroom guard and later held the staff and other customers present at the spot hostage. The loot occurred at around 1:30 pm and 2 pm.

The miscreants had entered the showroom posing as customers. When some staff tried to resist the miscreants, they were brutally assaulted.

Senior officials, including Jajpur SP have reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

Store manager Pranab Sahu said, “Initially two had come posing as customers. Two others initially attacked the security guard and some of our staff. They threatened our staff with guns.”

According to Sahu, the miscreants have also taken away some mobile phones and hard disk of the CCTV cameras.
