Tension prevailed in Manikpur village under Rasgovindpur block of Mayurbhanj district after unidentified miscreants opened fire at a house late on Saturday night. Police said no casualties were reported, but the attack created panic among residents.

According to the complaint filed, the incident occurred around 10:30 pm when four men arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire at the house of Dilip Kumar Giri. At that time, Giri and his family members were asleep inside.

The assailants reportedly fired multiple rounds at the building before escaping the scene under the cover of darkness.

Police Recover Evidence

Soon after the firing, Giri approached Rasgovindpur police station and lodged a formal complaint.

On Saturday morning, a police team accompanied by a scientific unit reached the site for inspection. During the search, investigators recovered a live cartridge along with a bullet casing from the premises. Both items have been seized for forensic analysis.

Land Dispute Connection

Preliminary inquiry has pointed towards an ongoing land-related conflict within the complainant’s extended family.

According to Giri’s family, he had been involved in a prolonged dispute over property matters with his relatives. The firing is suspected to have been triggered by this quarrel, though officers are also examining other possible motives.

Investigation Underway

Rasgovindpur police have begun efforts to trace the four assailants and identify those involved. Investigators have already developed suspicion against certain individuals believed to be connected with the attack.
