Body of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, who had been missing since April 17, was found hanging from a tree on a hill in Dhanamandal area of Jajpur district on Thursday.

The deceased CRPF personnel has been identified as Suryakant Kuanr from Sompur village under Ersama Police limits in Jagatsinghpur district.

Earlier, Suryakant’s bike was recovered near the hill following which a search operation was undertaken in the area.

Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances in which the incident took place. The body has been sent for postmortem. A scientific team has also been pressed into action.

“After the recovery of the bike, we conducted a search operation in the area yesterday. As many as three teams carried out the search operation this morning again. The body was found hanging from a tree. A scientific team has been pressed into action. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation into the incident is underway,” said Jajpur SDPO Sanjay Patnaik.

Meanwhile, Suryakant’s family members have demanded that the exact reason behind the CRPF jawan’s disappearance and death should be revealed with proper investigation.

“Suryakant was a CRPF jawan and he was mentally very strong. We just can’t believe that he will commit suicide. There could be some reason behind his disappearance and death and it should be investigated properly,” said the deceased’s relative Bikash Mohanty.

Notably, Suryakant came home recently on leave for the last rites of his grandmother and has been staying with his wife in another village. He went missing on April 17. His motorcycle was recovered near Dhanamandal hills under Jajpur’s Badachana Police limits on Wednesday.
