The festive season is here. Durga Puja and Navratri will be celebrated with much pomp and splendour in different parts of the country. Devotees will be worshipping different forms of Goddess Durga in these next few days. Preparations and celebrations have already begun, albeit with caution and fear of the pandemic.
Dussehra festivities are just days away. And for the second consecutive year, the fears of muted celebrations have come true. As if the 4-ft cap on idol height wasn’t enough, the SRC’s recently issued guidelines for Durga Puja celebrations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has come as a double blow to the denizens.
The Durga Puja will be celebrated from October 13 to October 15, 2021. "It is hereby directed that congregation for the celebration of Durga Puja and cultural congregations shall not be allowed in public within BeMC area," a notification issued by the civic body read.
"Respecting the emotions of the devotees, the collector has decided to allow them to visit the temple from 5 am to 2 pm for 'darshan'. However, section 144 will be clamped from 2 pm to 5 am during which the chariot pulling ceremony will be conducted."
As per the new guidelines, special night curfew restrictions will come into effect in the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for 10 days from 8 pm to 5 am (instead of the earlier 10 pm to 5 am) between October 11 and October 20. All markets and other commercial establishments will be allowed to operate till 8 pm daily during these 10 days till October 20 in both the cities.
