Contrary to the Odisha government’s big claims on development, reports of poor road connectivity came to the fore in the Kashipur area of Rayagada district on Tuesday.

A patient was carried in a sling to a hospital allegedly after an ambulance could not get access to the village.

As per reports, this incident happened at Khambarpadar. Bhanu Kamar was down with diarrhoea and required immediate medical attention. His family members contacted an ambulance service to shift him to Garliguma Hospital, but the vehicle did not come in the absence of a proper road to the village.

A creek flowing on the outskirts of the village is a major hurdle for communication. No bridge has been built across the creek and in the monsoons their problems compound, locals alleged.

The hospital is 10 km away from the village. With no option left, the kin of Bhanu carried him in a sling to the Dasamanthpur Community Health Centre.

Upset over such perennial problems, the villagers demanded immediate measures to lay a road.
