The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Police Crime Branch arrested an MBA degree-holder from Indira Nagar in Lucknow in connection with Rs 2 crore fraud.

The accused has been identified as Bimalananda Bhuyan, owner of Quick Click Ad Media. He along with his wife Rimi Bhuyan used to defraud people on the pretext of providing LED monitor advertisements. His wife was arrested earlier.

As per reports, one Bikash Poddar from Sambalpur lodged a complaint before the EOW about fraud. As the EOW started an investigation into the matter, it came to know that in 2017-18 Bimalananda and Rimi had lured people into their trap with the assurance of providing them LED-monitor displays for advertisements.

In the first phase, the couple tricked 53 people into investing Rs 1.20 crore. After collecting Rs 2 crore from 100 people, the couple did a vanishing act. The couple had opened its head office at Shyamnagar in Raipur of Chhattisgarh and branch offices at Jagdalpur and Bhubaneswar.

The EOW said that most of their victims were from Khordha, Koraput, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Ganjam.

Speaking to the media, SP of the EOW, Dillip Tripathy said, "The investigation found that they had cheated people of Rs 2 crore before absconding. In March this year, we arrested his wife Rimi Bhuyan from Mumbai where she was working in a real estate company.”

Tripathy said that after 2020 Bimalananda fled to Dubai where he stayed for one and a half years before coming to Lucknow.
