State Health and Family Welfare department Director Bijay Mohapatra today said that post Rath Yatra, Odisha may witness a surge in the number of Covid cases.
According to executive director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, the recent increase in the number of newly reported Covid-19 cases has been largely driven by Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, and by the lifting of public health and social measures.
While more than 3,000 people are reported to have tested positive, only 31 have been admitted to hospitals. 25 among them are in the ICU after their condition worsened.
India's daily positivity rate has declined to 3.23 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate currently stands at 4.24 per cent.
BA.5, together with BA.4 and other sub-variants, are said to be behind the current surge in infections seen in a slew of countries including India, China, US, and European nations, notably the UK and Italy.
As per the data shared by the I&PR department, the active Covid-19 case tally in the State now stands over 3,200. The infections are rising in Khordha, Cuttack, Rourkela and Puri.
All the street side vendors like tiffin shops/tea shops/Gupchup stall/Dahiwada stalls/lassi stalls/Juice stalls shall have to ensure no overcrowding of customers.
The death toll climbed to 5,25,454 with 26 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.
According to State Health Department, a total of 572 fresh Covid cases in Odisha have been reported from several districts.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.22 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.08 per cent, according to the ministry
As per the data shared by the Odisha government’s I &PR Department, Khordha district reported the highest 204 new Covid-19 cases, followed by 118 cases in Cuttack, 42 from Sundargarh and 37 from Puri district.
Sen, known for his contribution to welfare economics, economic and social justice, development economics and social choice theory, is currently under home quarantine at his ancestral residence of "Pratichi" at Bolpur-Shantiniketan in Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Meanwhile, the active caseload has also risen to 1,25,028 cases, accounting for 0.29 per cent of the total positive cases.
Of the total 512 fresh cases, 49 cases were detected in the age group of 0-18 years.
The Daily Positivity rate has also marginally risen to 4.96 per cent, while the Weekly Positivity Rate currently stands at 4.09 per cent.
