BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Cuttack Bhartruhari Mahtab on Saturday stated that the Odia pride will certainly be a key agenda of the party for the upcoming elections.

The Biju Janta Dal (BJD) turncoat Akash Das Nayak has been nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the BJD and the Congress are still brainstorming to find their best candidates for the seat. 

For Bolangir Sadar Assembly seat, Congress leader Narasingha Mishra's son Samarendra Mishra and BJD leader Ananga Udaya Singh Deo’s son Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo are locking horns on Congress and BJD tickets respectively. 

Alleging government employees are working for BJD's party programmes, the state unit of BJP moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), demanding action.

While announcing the names of candidates, Patnaik said that Sudarshan Haripal has been named BJD candidate for Rengali Assembly constituency.

After being denied tickets, rebels have come out in the open and announced to fight polls as independents. Amid all this, party supremo and top leaders are scratching their heads on how to manage the rebels.

Sarkhel said, "I have resigned from Congress this morning. I had distanced myself from the party. Now I want to focus on serving the labourers and the trade unions” 

He said, "I was not allowed to take part in party meetings. I was keen to contest for the Lok Sabha seat. I felt the party just wanted to bind me by keeping me in a position."

The BJD has repeated MLA Ashok Panda in the seat where Mahasupakar had been lobbying for a ticket this time. 

The Soro MLA was denied a BJD ticket this time and the party fielded Madhav Dhada in his place. Parshuram sent his resignation to the BJD president, alleging, “…for the last one year or so, some intermediary executives misreported the facts and did not render due support. Despite that, I had been putting in my efforts with due sincerity.”

Corporator Amaresh Jena has been lobbying hard for a ticket for the Bhubaneswar-Central seat. He had earlier made some unsavoury remarks about the MLA during a power show.
