The VSCS Biparjoy is about 690 km west of Goa, 640 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 640 km south-southwest of Porbandar and 950 km south of Karachi, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several places in Odisha also recorded maximum temperature of over 44 degrees Celsius including Sonepur (44.8), Hirakud (44.7), Boudh (44.6) and Bolangir, which recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees today.

No large change in maximum temperature (Day temperature) is expected at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 4-5 days.

As per the IMD, the low pressure area is likely become a well-marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours.

The southwest monsoon has arrived in Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.   

As per the IMD, the system is about 860 km west-south-west of Goa, 970 km south-west of Mumbai, 1050 km south south-west of Porbandar and 1350 km south of Karachi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a ‘yellow warning’ predicting thunderstorm and heat wave in several parts of the state.

Earlier, the IMD had predicted that monsoon would hit Kerala around June 4. However, there has been a delay of some days in the onset. The monsoon onset of Kerala draws much anticipation among people in other parts of the country including Odisha.

The thunderstorm activities are likely to provide some respite to people who are reeling under intense heat and humid conditions for the past several days.

“It is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over Eastcentral Arabian Sea & adjoining southeast during next 24 hours,” said the IMD.

The latest weather developments suggest the formation of low pressure over the Southeast Arabian Sea and subsequent intensification into a depression.

A low pressure area is very likely to form over the same region during the next 24 hours, said the IMD.

As per the IMD, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of South Arabian Sea and Maldives area, some parts of Lakshadweep area, entire Comorin area, some more parts of South Bay of Bengal and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal today.

A yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for various districts in the state.
