Depression crosses Bangladesh coast; to move across Gangetic West Bengal during next 48 hours: IMD

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across coastal Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 48 hours. The depression is under continuous surveillance by the Doppler Weather Radar at Kolkata, said IMD.

Depression crosses Bangladesh coast; to move across Gangetic West Bengal

The depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and crossed Bangladesh coast on Friday close to Patuakhali (Bangladesh), informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday.

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across coastal Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 48 hours. The depression is under continuous surveillance by the Doppler Weather Radar at Kolkata, said IMD.

As per IMD, squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over Gangetic west Bengal (including Kolkata) and adjoining north Odisha during September 14 and September 15 and over Jharkhand on September 15 and 16.

Similarly, the sea condition is very likely to remain rough over the north Bay of Bengal and along and off the West Bengal-Odisha coasts till the morning of September 16, 2024.

Rainfall Warning:

Gangetic West Bengal (including Kolkata): Light to moderate rainfall at most places is very likely with heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on 14th ; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on 15 th September.

Odisha: Light to moderate rainfall at most places is very likely with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on 14th and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on 15th September.
