Fluoride gas leak from Aditya Aluminum taking toll on crops

Sambalpur: Fluoride gas leak from Aditya Aluminum’s plant in Lasanga, Sambalpur is taking a toll on the acres of crops in the nearby areas. In its report submitted to the district administration, the Pollution Control Board has clearly established that the Fluoride gas from the plants is burning the paddy crops in the region. Nayak stated that the gas leak after a the rupture of the gas treatment pipe has adversely affected paddy and saplings in the areas which were exposed to the leak. Apart from crops, leaves of certain trees have also been burnt due to its effect, he noted.

Notably, affected resident of affected Hadamunda, Tudumakani, Aanlakani, Gurukarama, Ghichamura, Khadiapali and Banjhiberana villages approached the district collector on July 10 complaining about the ill-effects of the gas leak. On July 12, the pollution control board officials launched an investigation by visiting the place and collecting samples of plants allegedly affected by the gas leak.
