It was a princely state in British India and in post independence period it merged with Odisha state as Kalahandi district. Kalahandi is an example of disparity/contrasts that exist in many parts of the developing/underdeveloped world. On the one side, this district is famous for famine and starvation deaths and on the other side it is rich with agriculture. Kalahandi is largely an agriculture based economy. During Bengal famine Kalahandi alone had sent 100,000 tons of rice. Located on the confluence of the rivers Uttei and Tel, Kalahandi is a home to some very ancient temples of extensive architectural excellence dating back to the 12th century.
With the police investigation having been focussed on Room No 20, the plot around Room Number- 20 at the ladies hostel of Sunshine English High School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district thickens.

Meanwhile, if the recovered mobile phone from Radhe's house is found to be of Mamita, which Gobinda claimed to have buried in the pit with her body, it could be a vital input and help the police investigation.
Post her death, as per the pre-plan, Sahu took Mamita’s dead body to the under-construction Mahaling Stadium near the school premises, where the pit was made ready by his associate Radhe, the JCB driver and the clerk, and asked the clerk to spread a layer of cardboards in the pit as water had accumulated.
Police are also interrogating Sahu about what Mamita knew about his alleged illicit relationship and if that was the reason behind the planned murder.
In Kantabanji Town, shops and other commercial establishments remained shut while vehicles stay off the roads in view of the bandh.

As per Mamita's father', she left for Mahaling from her village Jharni near Tureikela in Bolangir district on October 8 after receiving a phone call. She boarded the lone bus Bajrangbali which commutes through the area and was received by Gobinda Sahu in a car near Sindhikela Chandatara. Both reportedly roam around the area in the car and also went for shopping, the CCTV footage of which is with the police.
Meanwhile, the family members alleged that the police misbehaved with them during the identification process

Police have put up posters of Sahu in different places in order to facilitate his identification. The reward amount will be given away to the person who gives information about Sahu.
