Ahead of the Orissa High Court's final hearing on the ban on sale and use of firecrackers this Diwali festivities, the Police on Sunday seized a huge cache of firecrackers from Nalabanta in Aska area of Ganjam district.

As per reports, Rs 75 lakh in cash and over 8 kg gold ornaments, whose value is estimated to be over some crores, were seized from the house of the peddler Rajani Kant Pattnaik of Kojapalli Badadanda Sahi under Khallikote police limits.

Senior officials of the anti-corruption unit said that the process for the seizure and attachment of the gold jewellery has already begun. Similarly, steps are also being taken to freeze the bank accounts of Panigrahi and his family members.

It may be noted that on December 3, 2020, the CID Crime Branch of Odisha Police had arrested Panigrahi in connection with a case of forgery, criminal conspiracy and other cyber offences.

Though no casualties were reported, property within the room was gutted in the blaze, informed sources.

In another success for the Odisha Police, Adava Police on Sunday seized over 20 quintals of marijuana from a granite-laden truck near Mandrabaju village in R.Udaigiri area of Gajapati district and arrested two persons.
