Heavens came crashing down when the devastating news about the death of an Odia migrant labourer in the far off shores of Oman reached his family back in Odisha recently.

As per reports, Pradeep Pahan, a resident of Kamalapadar Village under Khallikote Police Station in Ganjam district had been working as a migrant labourer in Oman for the past few years.

Pradeep had to move to Oman in the Middle-East after he failed to get a sustainable job in his village. The migration was facilitated by a manpower supply agent who got him employed in Dolphin Trading And Investment LLC, a firm in the Gulf Sheikhdom.

As per reports, though Pradeep had died last Sunday, the family learnt about it only two days later after a co-worker worker informed them about the terrible news. Pradeep is survived by his old parents, wife and two minor children.

Pradeep's family members were devastated upon hearing the news and are inconsolable since then.

Pradeep's wife Kasturi Pahan alleged that he had been harassed by the company officials and was kept starving. She also claimed that the company was not giving him his salary. She said though Pradeep had been desperately trying to set himself free from the clutches of the tormentors and come back to Odisha, all his escape routes were blocked by the company officials.

Meanwhile, Pradeep’s bereaved old parents have demanded an enquiry into the circumstances leading to his death in the far off land and appealed for help to bring their son’s mortal remains to their village so as to perform the last rites as per tradition
