The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday morning said that the depression over the northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and it will further intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours.

While issuing a cyclone alert for Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Odisha, the IMD informed that the system is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh- south Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur around
Kalingapatnam by the evening of September 26, 2021.

Depression intensified into a Deep Depression over North and adjoining central BoB , likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm next 12 hrs and to cross south Odisha and north AP coasts around Kalingapatnam by the evening of September 26. Cyclone Alert for north AP & adjoining south Odisha coasts,” tweeted the IMD.

 

Weather & forecast warnings associated with the System:

Day-1 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 25.09.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 26.09.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha.

Day-2 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 26.09.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 27.09.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

Day-3 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 27.09.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 28.09.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts south Odisha and at many places over districts of north Odisha.

Day-4 (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 28.09.21 to 0830 Hrs IST of 29.09.21): Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of south Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north Odisha.

Rainfall Warning

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Kendrapada,
Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Cuttack from 8.30 am of September 25 to September 26. 

Similarly, a red warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy (>20cm) falls at one or two places has been issued for Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Gajapati while yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places has been issued for the districts of Puri, Khordha,
Nayagarh, and Kalahandi from 8.30 am of September 26 to September 27. 

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall very at isolated places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Nuapada from September 26 to September 27. 

Besides on September 27 to 28, an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Kalahandi,
Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts while yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Kandhamal, Nuapada, Boudh, Sonepur, Ganjam, Gajapati and Nayagarh districts.

On September 28, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been sounded in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts.

Wind Warning

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along and off Odisha coasts from September 25 morning. It will gradually increase becoming gale wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 mph from the afternoon of September 26 till midnight along & off south Odisha coasts.

Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph very likely over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and increase gradually becoming gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from the evening of September 25 and 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from September 26 morning till evening.

Squally wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely over districts of Ganjam and Gajapati, and 50-60 gusting to 70 kmph over the districts Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khordha, Kalahandi and Kandhamal from September 26 morning till evening. Also 40-50 gusting to 60 kmph along coastlines of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak during the same period.

Fishermen Warning

The IMD has also cautioned the fishermen not to venture into sea, along & off Odisha, coasts northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal till September 27, 2021.

Sea Condition

Sea conditions will be rough to very rough over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coasts on September 25 and 26 and will be rough to very rough over Northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coasts on September 27, informed the Met Centre.
