The Odisha Police seized ganja worth over Rs 2.5 crore at two different places in Odisha in the last two days.

The Chitrakonda Police on Saturday late night seized around 1500 kilograms of ganja while being smuggled in a pickup van from Malkangiri to Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Police have also arrested the driver of the vehicle for his alleged involvement in the illegal trade of the contraband items, informed the Chitrakonda Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anshuman Dwibedi.

“The van was apprehended by the patrolling team near Rekhapalli village on the AP and Odisha border on Saturday night. When the vehicle was searched by the police team, we found around 1500 kg of ganja from the van. The market value of the seized ganja is estimated to be more than 1.5 crore,” said Dwibedi.

In another success for the Odisha Police, Adava Police on Sunday seized over 20 quintals of marijuana from a granite-laden truck near Mandrabaju village in R.Udaigiri area of Gajapati district and arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the smuggling case.

The arrested duo has been identified as Ravi Singh and Raju Singh, both residents of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

“The truck bearing registration no- UP78 DT7006 was carrying ganja along with granite when the police team intercepted the vehicle near Mandrabaju and arrested two persons. As many as 70 sacks of Ganja were seized from the truck while the contraband was being smuggled from R.Udayagiri area to Uttar Pradesh. The estimated value of the seized ganja will be Rs 1 crore,” informed the SDPO of R.Udayagiri, Dilip Kumar Nayak.
