Sine die to be lifted from Central University on April 2

Koraput: Authorities of Central University of Orissa (CUO), Koraput have decided to lift the sine die on April 2 after a fortnight of shutdown following student unrest over fulfillment of various demands.

Informing this to media, Sachidananda Mohanty, Vice Chancellor of the varsity said the decision to reopen comes after a series of review meetings and unanimous recommendations of the Heads of the departments and officials to fulfill the demands of agitating students.

The teaching departments and the hostels of the university shall reopen on 2nd April 2018 and classes shall commence from 3rd April 2018.

“From March 1 to 15, a lot of unfortunate incidents occurred in our campus which was in violation of the laws and we had to declare sine die to prevent violence.”

The VC further said that the administration has fulfilled most of the demands of the students basically hostel related and facilities inside the campus.

“When the classes begin, our total action plan and what we have done to fulfill their demands will be displayed on notice boards. It is shocking that around Rs 320 crores worth of infrastructure projects are pending with the UGC and MHRD. Efforts will be made to secure early sanction and approval of such funds.” Mohanty said.

The varsity was closed sine die on March 15 following agitation by students seeking fulfillment of their 60-point charter of demands which included filling up of teacher vacancies, more departments, instruments for laboratory, more books for library, upgradation of hostel infrastructure, free wi-fi facility, an auditorium and ATM inside campus, among others.
