The Odisha Cabinet proposed developing Gopalpur Port into an all-weather deep seaport via a Public Private Partnership in the Build Own Operate Share Transfer mode. The port, developed by Gopalpur Ports Ltd, will see equity shares transferred to Adani Ports and SEZ from Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Pvt Ltd and Orissa Stevedores Ltd. A comprehensive yard remodeling at Sambalpur Railway Station will impact rail movement on various Odisha routes for over four months, informed East Coast Railway (ECoR). One MEMU train will be cancelled, and five Express trains will be diverted. The Jharsuguda-Sambalpur-Jharsuguda MEMU train will be cancelled from 20 September 2024 to 5 February 2025. Five pairs of Express trains will be rerouted via Sambalpur City Station, ensuring passenger services during the renovation.
A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report revealed that Rs 782.26 crore was transferred to 12.72 lakh ineligible KALIA beneficiaries in Odisha. Tabled by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in the Assembly, the report identified another 2.96 lakh ineligible beneficiaries through database analysis, totalling 12.72 lakh. The Department's lack of preparedness and planning led to only partial implementation of the KALIA scheme from 2018-21.
