2 Criminals Planning Major Crime On Dussehra Arrested, 2 Firearms Seized

Two notorious criminals who were allegedly planning to commit major crimes in Cuttack during Dussehra have been arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Friday.

Two firearms and ammunition were recovered from the duo identified as Muna Rao and Saubhagya Das. They have been arrested by a team from the Malgadown police.

Police said both of them are professional arms dealers and have been involved in a string of crimes. Senior police officials said that the Cuttack Commissionerate Police have been successful in seizing 53 illegal arms and 240 ammunitions in special drive launched in the city so far. 55 criminals have also been arrested in different operations till Friday.

Youth Critical In Firing In Khordha, Accused Nabbed

A youth was left critically wounded after suffering a gunshot at his cousin sister's house in Khordha district on Friday. As per reports, the youth had gone to his sister's house at Nuasahi in Begunia when a tenant living in their residence opened fire at him. The accused who has been identified as a retired Subedar Major and a resident of Sorana area in Khordha was nabbed by police from Arugul in Jatani area. Identity Of 2 Bodies Found Near Gopalpur Beach Ascertained

Police have established the identities of two bodies recovered from Gopalpur and Upulaputi beaches in Ganjam district recently. According to police, the bodies belonged to an elderly couple- Damayanti Achari and her husband Chiranjibi Achari of Goilundi Bada Sahi area of Berhampur.  The couple had gone to their relative's house at Badabazar area on October 12, and since then they were missing. Gopalpur police had recovered the body of the elderly person from Upulaputi village, 8 km from Gopalpur beach on the evening of October 12. Later, the body of the woman was recovered on October 14. After a picture of the woman's body was shared on social media to ascertain her identity, the deceased's son contacted the police. The youth confirmed that the body belonged to his mother Damayanti. The cause of death of the couple is yet to be ascertained. The police are now investigating as to how the couple came to Gopalpur from Badabazar area and the circumstances leading to their death.
