In view of the impending cyclone threat, the Odisha government will start sending response teams like NDRF, ODRAF and Fire service personnel to different districts from tomorrow, the Special Relief Commissioner said on Wednesday.

“We held discussions with the response forces like NDRF, ODRAF and Odisha Fire service department about the impending cyclone. On the basis of preliminary information, we will send response teams to different districts from tomorrow,” SRC Pradeep Jena said.  

Jena said there are 14 NDRF units, each unit having 25 to 30 personnel. However, each team will be divide into two sub team and deployed for rescue operations. 

Similarly, there are 20 ODRAF teams. While each team comprise 50 members, during deployment they will be divided into three sub teams. Therefore, 60 ODRAF teams will carry out the rescue operation.

Moreover, the Fire Services department has agreed to mobilised 200 teams and the department is carrying out necessary preparations.

“Tomorrow, we will take decision regarding the number of response teams to be sent to different districts. The day after, all our response teams will be deployed. if needed, 10 more NDRF teams will be roped in,” the SRC said. 

The SRC has also directed to evacuate people from low-lying areas and ensure no one is left behind in kucha houses during the cyclone. Moreover, schools and colleges will remain open to accommodate evacuated people.

The concerned department has also been ordered to be ready for clearance of roads, he added.
