The Odisha government will start sending response teams like NDRF, ODRAF and Fire service personnel to different districts from tomorrow, the Special Relief Commissioner said on Wednesday.
"This is in preparation for the approaching Cyclone Yaas and the operations are ongoing since May 21. To date, the IAF has airlifted 606 personnel and 57 tonnes of load for this purpose."
Reviewing the preparedness of central and state agencies during the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) meeting, Gauba further emphasised on the early evacuation of people from the areas likely to be affected by the cyclone.
As Bhubaneswar is expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by strong wind under the influence of the cyclonic storm from May 25, more emphasis is likely to be given on cleaning the drainage systems in the city.
The concerned officials have been directed to ensure proper evacuation of people living in low-lying areas and kutcha houses to avoid any kind of eventualities.
