In a huge set back to Team India's chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the West Indies and USA, skipper Rohit sharma has been injured during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to Mumbai Indians (MI) leg spinner Piyush Chawla, former team captain Rohit was forced to play as an impact substitute against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to a minor back stiffness.

The veteran batsman also failed to impress during the match as he managed to score only 11 off 12 deliveries in the chase against KKR.

The aggressive batter whacked Australian speedster Mitchell Starc for an exquisite lofted six over cover. Later, he attempted to pull off a short one from Sunil Narine but was unable to make a good connection.

"Rohit was suffering from mild stiffness in his back, it was just preventive measure," said Chawla.

Rohit is not in good form in IPL 2024. It was expected that before the T20 World Cup, he will pick up form and momentum. However, his injury has become a concern for India now.
