A railway team headed by Khordha DRM has initiated the probe to find out how an engine-less train rolled down the tracks on its own.
Speaking to OTV, the local said, “The Coromandel Express had met with a mishap in 2009 at exactly the same place. Many people had died in the crash.”
The leader of the opposition pointed out that compensation to the victims of the train accident should have been provided from the chief minister's relief fund.
Scores of others from different parts of the state are also continuing with a frantic search to trace their family members who are still missing.
The incident occurred at the Santhaldih railway crossing, near the Bhojudih railway station, and the tractor got stuck between the railway track and the gate.
Luckily, three of them were rescued with minor injuries while two of them have gone missing in the strong currents of the dam.
The minor boy, identified as Ramananda Paswani, along with three others from Nepal was travelling on Coromandel Express when the tragic mishap took place claiming 288 lives. While the three companions of Ramananda died in the mishap, he miraculously escaped with injuries.
Reports suggest several people have made futile and fraudulent attempts to claim the compensation prompting the Odisha government to sound an alarm.
hikari said that it is an inhuman approach on behalf of the Chief Minister to call the family members of the victims to collect the compensation cheques barely five days after the accident.
The girl is currently stuck at a depth of 20 feet, an official said, adding that the incident occurred at Mugavali village in the afternoon.
So far the official death toll in the tragic train accident at Bahanaga Bazaar Station in Balasore stands at 288, Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena informed on Tuesday.
Railways put the official death toll in the Odisha triple train crash at 278, stating that three more people have succumbed to their injuries.
The Express was running at a speed of 128 kmph speed on the main line and it was supposed to go straight as a goods train was already on the loop line. So, there was no question of the Coromandel Express taking the loop line.
“There was green signal on the main line. The signal is usually green when all the pre-conditions required for the signal to go green are perfect. If any of the pre-conditions does not meet, technically the signal can never turn green," said Khordha DRM.
The BJP leader also said that he will wait for some days and then take necessary action to ensure that CBI includes this call leaking episode in its ambit of investigation into the Balasore train mishap that left nearly 300 people dead, including many from West Bengal.
