Emotion scenes unfolded at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after a 15-year-old boy from Nepal, who survived the triple train crash at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore recently, reunited with his family members on Tuesday.

The minor boy, identified as Ramananda Paswani, along with three others from Nepal was travelling on Coromandel Express when the tragic mishap took place claiming 288 lives. While the three companions of Ramananda died in the mishap, he miraculously escaped with injuries. 

Ramananda was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital and admitted to ICU owing to his serious health condition. 

Ramananda’s parents, who came all way from Nepal to Bhubaneswar on Monday, were doing rounds of hospitals in Bhubaneswar in search of their missing son. While they were searching for Ramananda at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar they came across OTV journalist and narrated their plight on camera.

Ramananda’s joy knew no bounds after he discovered his parents on OTV screen and he immediately informed hospital authorities about the same.

Later, his parents were contacted which put an end to their frantic search for their son.

“I am very happy that I found my son. He (my son) had come with three of my relatives. All of them died but we are so fortunate that our son survived the triple train tragedy,” said Hari Paswani, father of Ramananda.

Notably, 288 people were killed in the triple train accident involving Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, which were carrying over 2,500 passengers, and a goods train laden with iron on Friday evening at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore.

As many as 21 coaches were derailed and severely damaged in the accident, trapping hundreds of passengers. It is worthwhile to mention here that a CBI probe is underway into the triple train tragedy.
