As many as 39 persons among those who lost their lives in the recent Coromandel Express accident belong to different parts of Odisha. The Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 1.95 crore for the families of the 39 identified deceased from the state.

So far the official death toll in the tragic train accident at Bahanaga Bazaar Station in Balasore stands at 288, Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena informed on Tuesday.

Among the 39 deceased, 8 persons are from Bhadrak, 2 persons from Jajpur, 14 from Balasore, 9 from Mayurbhanj, 2 from Khordha, 3 from Cuttack and one person is from Keonjhar.

The assistance of Rs 5 lakh each has been provided to the next of kin of the deceased. The assistance has been provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
