Cuttack: Even though the Commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) ordered an inquiry into allegations of CMC Mayor Anita Behera’s name figuring in the list of beneficiaries for subsidized food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), members of the youth wing of State BJP staged a demonstration in front of the CMC office here on Tuesday.
Hundreds of men and women workers of BJP took out a rally from Gouri Shankar park and staged a protest in front of the CMC office demanding the resignation of the mayor.
Echoing the BJP clamour against Behera, workers of district Congress also staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office. Besides, members of Congress also filed a written complaint with Purighat police.
Earlier yesterday, corporators created a ruckus over the issue at a meeting of CMC. Protesting corporators demanded a probe and stern action against the mayor for the same.
Though Mayor Anita Behera has claimed that she did not know how her name got into the list, there are many takers for her claim.
The issue has casued a major embarassment for the ruling BJD, besides raising questions about the reliability of the process of enlisting beneficiaries under the centrally sponsored scheme.
