Bhubaneswar: The joy of Belbahal residents in Bargarh district knew no bounds today after Special Protection Group (SPG) members took a stock of security arrangements in the area where Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to meet farmers and lead a rally tomorrow.
Expressing happiness, Ramesh Kuanr, a resident of Belbahal said, “We will request Rahul to help generate employment opportunities in the region so that more youths can be engaged.”
Sutar, a youth form the same area echoed Kuanr’s voice.
“We all are educated but still jobless. How will we run our families and help our parents in their old age?” he said.
Rahul will lead a ‘Save Farmer March’ in the district during his two-day Odisha visit to highlight alleged failure of both the Centre and State Government in mitigating the plight of peasants.
Rahul is scheduled to lead a Chasi Banchao Padayatra from Debahal to Attabira in the district which is witnessing suicide by farmers, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan said.
The ‘Save Farmer March’ is being organised to pressurise the Government to take urgent steps to check suicide by farmers due to crop loss and debt burden, Harichandan said.
The padayatra will also highlight the failure of the BJD Government in the State and BJP-led NDA rule at the Centre in bringing relief to the farmers, he said.
