Rourkela: Tension ran high at Bondamunda area near here on Saturday night following a clash between locals and forest officials and police over dispersing an elephant herd that entered the town near National Institute of Technology (NIT).
According to sources, the clash took place around 12 midnight when the villagers did not allow the animals to move out and attack them.
When the forest officials and police opposed the move of local residents, the scene took a violent turn. People attacked the cops and forest officials injuring Bondamunda police ASI, two forest officials. Similarly, 10 people were also injured in the clash,sources added.
Later, police resorted lathi charge to disperse the irate mob. Four platoons of forces have been deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident, said a police official.
