Bhubaneswar: With farmer suicide cases continue unabated in the State, Odisha Congress has decided to stage demonstrations at all block offices today protesting against the ruling BJD government’s failure in meeting the agricultural requirements of farmers.
The party will gherao all block offices demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the deceased farmers and declare the entire State as drought-hit.
Alleging the ruling BJD has paid no heed to the issue, Congress will demand the government to release whitepaper on the matter which has emerged as a serious concern in the State.
As part of the ‘Chasi Banchao Andolan’, the party has also decided to submit a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir over the farmer suicides and drought situation in the State.
Earlier the party had observed a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Deogarh district on November 2 demanding declaration of the entire district as drought-hit.
