Bhubaneswar: Accusing the BJD government of failing to take steps to check rising infant deaths at Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack, BJP today staged protest across the state highlighting the crumbling healthcare services.
The BJP is staging dharana in front of all 314 block offices across the State and holding protest meetings.
In urban areas, the party activists are protesting outside offices of all chief district medical officers (CDMOs) and ADMO offices.
State BJP president KV Singhdeo led a protest march in Patnagarh of Balangir district.
“The healthcare service in all government-run hospitals in Odisha is in pathetic state, and recent infant deaths at Sishu Bhavan is a glaring example”, KV Singdeo explained.
It’s not only in Cuttack it’s in every hospital across Odisha. The Cuttack SDMO had gone on leave only to hide his fault. And we have decided not to call off our strike until he joins office, Singhdeo added.
Echoing the similar sentiments, BJP leader Samir Mohanty said, “In two weeks, 59 infants have died at the Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack. Protesting the deaths, the party members today gheraoed the Health minister’s residence and staged a dharna. We demand that the minister should corrective measures regarding deteriorating health services.”
Similarly, another senior BJP leader Pratap Sadangi said, “Not only in Cuttack, where only 65 infants have died so far, cases have been reported from other hospital across the State. In hospitals, basic needs are not being met. In other places, some are dying because of lack of proper treatment. Money is being collected from patients.”
