Bhubaneswar: There was no such restriction before 2004 while Odisha government had recommended Centre for allocation of Talabira-II coal block to Indian Alumium Company’ (INDAL).
Talking to our correspondent, former chief minister JB Patnaik said INDAL merged with Hindalco in 2004 and the recent government recommended the same violating all guidelines.
“We had recommended the coal block for industrialists for bigger interest of the State when there was no restriction. But now the situation is different. This government recommended the allocation of coal block to a particular industry without waiting for auction”, JB Patnaik said terming it as ‘unfortunate’.
In reply, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said “It is being politicised now as former prime minister Manmohan Singh has been summoned by a special court as an accused in the coal scam”.
