Police seize trucks, construction machines of ex-corporator
Berhampur: Tightening its noose around former corporator of Berhampur Municipal Corporation R Murali Mohan in connection with his links with ex-Congress MLA Ramesh Jena, the city police on Saturday seized some vehicles and construction machines of Mohan.
“Based on Murali’s information we have seized three motor cycles, one Honda Activa, one JCB, one Hitachi and identified four trucks. Preliminary investigations suggest that these trucks are registered in the name of Jena. Two teams have been formed to expedite investigation,” Berhampur SP Asish Singh said.
Investigation is on to trace if he owns more vehicles either in his name or any other’s name, police sources added.
Meanwhile, Jena’s one more aide K Kumar has been held from his house for his suspected links with Jena.
“We have arrested Kumar based on the input given by Jena’s close associate Santosh Behera during interrogation. He was working as a salesman in Jena’s wine shop,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
Investigating officials have also seized one pistol from Kumar’s possession.
He will be interrogated to elicit more information on the criminal empire of Jena, the officer stated.
The SDJM court here will hear the remand extension plea of police to take Santosh on seven more days. His remand had ended yesterday.
Police said the remand period of Mohan and Jena’s father ends today.
