Have you linked Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar? Well your PAN is likely to get inoperative if you fail to link the crucial document with Aadhaar as per the notification issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

In its latest tweet, CBDT said, “As per Income-tax Act, 1961, the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is 31.3.2023, for all PAN holders who do not fall under the exempt category, failing which the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative.”

As per the notice, the PAN cards which are not linked with Aadhaar card would be inoperative with effect from April 1, 2023.

All PAN holders, who do not come under the exempt category as per the notification issued on May 11, 2017 and have not linked their Aadhaar with PAN, are requested to do so immediately.

A person can link his/her PAN with a valid Aadhaar on www.incometax.in after paying a fee of Rs 1,000.

Following categories are exempted from Aadhaar-PAN linking

(i) NRIs

(ii) Not a citizen of India

(iii) Persons above 80 years as on date

(iv) Residents of Assam, Meghalaya or Jammu & Kashmir
