Southwest monsoon set in over southern parts of Kerala on Thursday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday informed that the annual monsoon has made its onset in the southern parts of Kerala today (June 3).
Monsoon has been delayed by a couple of days and is likely to arrive in Kerala by June 3 this year. According to the latest forecast, the southwesterly winds would gradually strengthen further from June 1 which could result in rainfall activity over Kerala. On the other hand, the Regional Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, issued thunderstorm warning for as many as 15 districts of Odisha.
The Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall for various districts in the State today.
"This year, the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala is likely to be on 31st May with a model error of plus/minus 4 days."
The Meteorological Centre of the IMD here today has issued Orange Warning with forecast for moderate to severe thunderstorms in the Twin Cities. This apart, the forecast has also issued storm and rainfall alert for some other districts of the State.
Several places across Odisha especially coastal parts are likely to experience thunderstorm activities including light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty surface winds on Tuesday.
