The IMD predicts a significant temperature drop in Odisha due to upcoming thunderstorms, offering a break from an intense 18-day heat wave. Thunderstorms are expected across various parts, especially coastal districts within the next 24 hours.
Bhubaneswar recorded its hottest day of 2024 with temperatures nearing 44 degrees Celsius, despite cloudy conditions. The IMD predicts fluctuating temperatures and potential thunderstorms in several districts of Odisha over the coming days.
The IMD has also issued an orange warning for heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in different parts of Odisha for the next two days.
The cool weather condition is likely to continue for next 24 hours but the maximum temperature is likely to rise subsequently, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.
As per the IMD, the trough from north Odisha to east Vidarbha now runs from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal.
Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh is likely to occur between March 16 and March 20, 2024.
The IMD has further predicted light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorm activities in several parts of the state in the coming days. However, no warning has been issued in this regard.
The weather agency has further said a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea and the neighbourhood around September 29. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.
The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by cloud-to-ground lightning over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh during September 21-22.
As per IMD, there is a possibility of an increase in the intensity of rainfall activities in different parts of Odisha from September 11. The IMD has also issued a 'yellow warning' for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in some districts of Odisha.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around September 3. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form during the subsequent 48 hours.
