The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued an ‘orange warning’ for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching up to 40 to 50 kmph in some districts of Odisha during the next week.

Apart from this, a yellow alert for thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for several districts in the next few days. As per the IMD, the trough from north Odisha to east Vidarbha now runs from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal.

Similarly, the cyclonic circulation over north Odisha & neighbourhood has become less marked.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.03.2024)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Jajpur.
